A brief biography

Henry was born 6th March 1905 in Kilburn, London. He moved north to the Midlands (Sutton Coldfield) with his parents and finished schooling there. He had many jobs during his life time - one of the most promising was in jewellery design, that firm becoming bankrupt in the slump between wars. He fell back to labouring in various industries and also he was a cutlery polisher. He married Phyllis Jane Hopley on the 4th July 1931 at Mill Street Methodist Church, Cannock. Phyllis being a Methodist though Henry being an Anglican Catholic. He was declared unfit for military service during WWII, having very poor eyesight, he eventually became blind. He lived with his son for many years and finally entered an old peoples' home Connolly House, South Shields, Tyne and Wear. Henry died peacefully at this address o the 6th of August 1991, exactly eighty-five and a half to the day. [CR]
