Emery John Risbridger


Son of William Risbridger and Mary Ann Brodie. .

Born in 1864, the twenty-seventh year of the reign of Queen Victoria, and died aged seventy-six in the fifth year of the reign of King George VI  He has 33 direct descendants in the family.

The Omnibus Groom


Was born at 29 John Street, St. John’s Wood, London in 1864. He married Mary Ann Drew in 1884 when they lived at 13 Netherwood Street, Hampstead, London. Emery was recorded as an omnibus groom and conductor on the horse buses in the census (5/4/1891) but it is known that he followed his trade of carpenter at other times. He lived at many addresses during his lifetime, they are listed as follows:

Emery is a direct line ancestor of the author, Cyril Risbridger, and he passed away in 1941 during WWII at his address in the Isle of Wight, at the age of seventy eight. Emery married again, seventeen years after his first wife’s death, in 1919 to Eva May who was born in 1879 and died in 1955, fourteen years after Emery, they had a daughter Eva born 1911 who married Richard Willett a Romany from the Isle of Wight, she had three children to Richard, Richard David 1938; John 1942 and Peter (no date).
