James Whales


Born in 1800, the fortieth year of the reign of King George III, and died aged thirty-eight in the second year of the reign of Queen Victoria  He has 5 direct descendants in the family.

West Hoathly


James Whales was baptised in the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion chapel at the north end of West Hoathly, a small Nonconformist denomination with links to Methodism that is now derelict (see photo).



He died of TB aged thirty-nine leaving Elizabeth to raise their four children alone.

Baptism

James Whales, was baptised at Worth, Sussex on the 30th of August, son of George WALES and Mary HARDING. George and Sarah were married on the 17th April 1788 at Worth.
